Lake GUNTERSVILLE, AL – April 2025 REPORT
Guntersville report- April is an exciting time to fish Lake Guntersville as both bass and crappie are in varying stages of their spawning cycles—pre-spawn, spawn, and even some post-spawn activity. Water temperatures are climbing, and the action is heating up across the lake.
Crappie fishing has been consistent and productive. Anglers are finding success in a range of depths, from deep water at 25–30 feet around submerged trees, to shallow stumps and creek mouths. Main river points have also been holding solid numbers of crappie, especially during periods of stronger current, which seems to turn the bite on. The most productive baits lately have been monkey milk tracer shad plastics and a variety of hand-tied hair jigs. These presentations mimic baitfish effectively and are enticing bites in both clear and stained water.
Bass are making strong moves into the shallows, either locking onto beds or staging close by in preparation to spawn. Targeting shallow flats near spawning bays, as well as humps and points adjacent to bedding areas, has been effective. The standout bait this month has been the Junebug-colored soft plastic worm, which is getting the most consistent bites. Whether Texas-rigged, Carolina-rigged, or used with a shaky head, this worm has been pulling fish off beds and from staging areas.
With fish spread across all three spawn phases, anglers have plenty of opportunities no matter their preferred style of fishing. Stay mobile, match your presentation to the water clarity and weather, and don’t be afraid to mix shallow and deep water tactics throughout the day. Lake Guntersville is alive with spring energy, and now is the time to get out there and enjoy it.
